Guidelines are used by nurses to assist the decision making process in patient care. Below you will find search tips for finding Clinical Practice Guidelines on the Web and in the library's clinical databases.
The National Guideline Clearinghouse (NGC) is a goverment database of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines that is publicly available on the Web.
Start by using the search box on the NGC homepage.
The Advanced Search page offers many options for limiting, including by Specialy, where you can select Nursing.
1. Enter your search terms.
2. Scroll down until you see the Limit called Publication Type. Select Practice Guidelines from the list.
3. Click Search.
Remember, you will get more accurate results in CINAHL if you search using CINAHL Headings rather than keywords.

1. Click the Limits link below the search box.
2. Under Type of Article, click the box next to Practice Guidelines.
3. Enter your search terms and hit Search.
Remember, you will get more accurate results in PubMed when you search using the appropriate MESH Heading for your topic.
